About the Syllable Counter

This tool counts syllables in any English word, sentence, or paragraph instantly as you type. It shows total syllables, total words, character count, and average syllables per word — useful for writing poetry, checking readability, or studying phonetics.

The word-by-word breakdown table lets you see exactly how many syllables each unique word contains, and how often it appears in your text. Words are color-coded by syllable count: gray for monosyllabic words, blue for two syllables, orange for three, and red for four or more — making polysyllabic words easy to spot at a glance.

The haiku detector checks whether your text spans exactly three lines and follows the traditional 5–7–5 syllable structure. Type your haiku attempt line by line and the banner will appear the moment the structure matches.

The syllable counting algorithm runs entirely in your browser using a rule-based approach for English words. No text is sent to any server. Works offline.
